Core Functions / Responsibilities:


Under the direct supervision of the Head of Unit and overall guidance of the Head of Office, the successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of counselling and psychological assistance to returning and newly arrived migrants within the IOM Vilnius project Migration Information Center (MIC) “I Choose Lithuania“, in particular:

  1. Provides consultations on general issues related to return, immigration and (re)integration to returning migrants;
  2. Develops appropriate mechanism to provide psychological consultation services to returning or newly arrived migrants in need; establishes procedures for registration, feedback and monitoring of services;
  3. Provides general psychological consultation via e-mail, Skype and in-house to returning migrants and newly arrived migrants in need;
  4. Provides case management of difficult occurrences, develops and maintains an efficient mental referral system for clients who require specialized attention;
  5. Maps existing national mental health services that are available and accessible to the clients of the MIC;
  6. Establishes and maintains contacts with relevant institutions/ partners which may refer migrants with psychological issues to MIC;
  7. Closely works with Diaspora and Lithuanian regional focal points in order to advertise MIC psychological consultations’ services;
  8. Analyses main problematic issues and drafts recommendations to relevant stakeholders; produces briefs and advises on main problematic issues;
  9. Develops appropriate informational materials related to mental health component in return, immigration and MIC activities; assists in the development of mental health component in the project web-site;
  10. Contributes to the preparation and implementation of communication campaign using innovative communication channels, in particular social media; advises on experience - based success stories of return migrants;
  11. Assists in dissemination of relevant and up-to-date information on project activities to Lithuanian communities abroad, embassies, press and other active civil society organizations; 
  12. Organises assigned meetings, workshops, seminars, trainings and expert roundtables;
  13. Attends official meetings, appointments and duty travel;
  14. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Office.


Required Qualifications and Experience



·       University Degree in Psychology from an accredited academic institution, with four years of relevant experience in working with social issues;

·         Masters or Equivalent Degree in Psychology will be an advantage.



·      Relevant experience in providing personal consultations and working directly with people;

·      Good understanding about online communication tools;

·      Knowledge of main migration issues in Lithuania and current situation in the EU;

·      Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences;

·      Ability to collect, analyse and synthesise information and present it in user-friendly and concise form;

·      Reliable, able to work under pressure, good organizational skills and drive for results;

·      Good writing skills – ability to clearly and concisely write various texts, articles, press releases etc.



Excellent working knowledge of Lithuanian, English. Knowledge of Russian or any other language is an asset.


Other requirements


·       Experience in living abroad is an advantage;

·      Experience of working in an International non-profit organization is an asset.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.


Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.


The offered nett salary is EUR 1000 (if contributing to pension fund); 1110 (if no contributions to pension fund are paid).
